Liberty Classic Community Band Festival XII

Mission Statement

The Repasz Band (EST: 1831), one of America’s oldest community bands is committed to hosting the Liberty Classic Community Band Festival to provide outstanding musical experiences for dedicated musicians and to enrich the lives of those who share our love for performing the highest quality band literature. The Festival is designed to nurture and promote community appreciation for music, while providing quality music performances for and on behalf of the residents of the City of Williamsport and the surrounding communities.

Festival History

In 2006, The Repasz Band hosted the Association of Concert Bands National Convention. It was a phenomenally successful event which the band had a greattime hosting.  We enjoyed meeting musicians from all over the country and working on the details to produce a first rate convention. One of the highlights of that convention was experiencing the dynamic and passionate conducting of Col. Arnald D. Gabriel. We are thrilled he will be joining us again to conduct this festival. The  Repasz Band has made this an annual event since 2010.

About Williamsport

Williamsport is a city and the county seat of Lycoming County Pennsylvania. The population was 30,706 at the 2000 census. In the late 1800s Williamsport was known as “The Lumber Capital of the World” because of its thriving lumber industry. Williamsport once had more millionaires per-capita than anywhere in the world. The area’s local high school, the Williamsport Area High School, uses The Millionaires as its mascot. Williamsport is well-known for the Lycoming aircraft engines which is a division of Avco Corporation and a subsidiary of Textron.  Brodart, a library supplies company, is also based in Williamsport. Shop-Vac is headquartered in the Newberry section of Williamsport and manufactures wet/dry vacuums and accessories in China for consumer, industrial, commercial and contractor uses.

October in Williamsport

We have selected one of the most beautiful weekends of the year for our festival. The foliage will be at its peak of color. October days can be warm with temperatures in the 70’s or Mother Nature can pull a trick on us and give us a snowstorm.

Transportation

Susquehanna Trailways provides daily long distance bus service from a station in the downtown to Elmira, New York, Harrisburg, New York City, and Philadelphia. Williamsport is served by several major highways, including Interstate 180, U.S. Route 15, and U.S. Route 220. I-180 and US 220 currently run together northeast/southwest through Williamsport, and US 15 joins (in the opposite direction) for two miles.

What to bring

Please bring a music stand unless you are flying to our festival. We will provide stands for our flyers. If you have a battery operated stand light please bring it for the Friday night rehearsal.

Concert Attire

Concert Black-
Men: Black or dark suit, a white shirt and long black tie.
Women: floor length black dress, floor length black skirt with black top or black slacks and black top. Please avoid glittery, sparkling tops.

Parking

Parking is free at the Genetti Hotel if you are a guest. Unfortunately, all other will have to use close by parking lots or on street parking. The hotel lot is filled to capacity every night with guests. There are places to park momentarily where you can drop off large instruments so they do not need to be carried for a long distance.
